A.D.Chapman, Austral. Pl. Name Index 2591 (1991) stated that Poiret did not validly make the combination Schoenus axillaris. However, under Article 33.1 of the 2006 (Vienna) edition of the ICBN, this name is considered to be validly published. Chapman (op. cit. 2597) also lists Schoenus subaxillaris Kük. f. subaxillaris, but this autonym does not exist, in accordance with ICBN Art. 27.2 (Vienna Code) (2006).
