Published in:Forest, J. & Guinot, D. 1961, "Crustacés Décapodes Brachyoures de Tahiti et des Tuamotu", pp. ix-xi, 1-195 178, text-figs 18 pls pp104-106 (definitely established that the two names were subjective synonyms by demonstrating that the type species of <I>Cyclodius, C. ornatus</I> Dana, 1852 is a junior synonym of <I>Phymodius monticulosus</I> (Dana, 1852) [= <I>Cyclodius obscurus</I> (Jacquinot, 1846)], but continued to use the junior generic name <I>Phymodius</I>)
