Names and sources

Accepted Name Source
Triglochin L.
  • APC
According to:Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria (2014), Australian Plant Census
Published in:Linnaeus, C. (1 May 1753), Species Plantarum 1 [338]

When publishing the name Triglochin, C.Linnaeus, Sp. Pl. 338 (1753) treated it as of neuter gender (e.g. T. palustre, T. maritimum). G.Bentham, Fl. Austral. 7: 165-169 (1878) treated it as feminine, presumably on the basis that "glochin" is feminine, and he was followed by most subsequent Australian authors. Since the 1990s there has been a general consensus to accept Linnaeus' original choice of neuter. However, the ICN (Art. 62.2 (b.) Ex. 5, Melbourne Code (2012)) mandates a feminine gender for Triglochin, which is adopted here.
