Names and sources

Accepted Name Source
Ichnocarpus frutescens (L.) W.T.Aiton
  • APC
According to:Forster, P.I. in Orchard, A.E. (ed.) (1996), Apocynaceae. Flora of Australia 28
Published in:Aiton, W.T. (1811), Hortus Kewensis Edn. 2, 2 [69]

The name Ichnocarpus frutescens has been variously attributed to (L.) R.Br., (L.) R.Br. in W.T.Aiton and (L.) W.T.Aiton. Brown described the genus Ichnocarpus in Mem. Wern. Nat. Hist. Soc 1: 61 (1811), with a single species, the Apocynum frutescens of Linnaeus. However he failed to actually make the new combination, only implying it. The combination was first made in Hortus Kewensis, 2nd edn. 2: 69 (1811). Although it is generally agreed that the new descriptions in this work were done by Dryander and Brown, there is no internal evidence of this (Art. 46.6), so the new combination must be ascribed to W.T.Aiton.
