The study was conducted at Gabo Island Lighthouse Reserve (3733S, 14954E) and Griffith Island, Port Fairy (3822S, 14213E), two colonies located at both extremities of Bass Strait in south-eastern Australia. Breeding populations are estimated at more than 6,000 pairs at Gabo Island and 15,000 pairs at Griffith Island.
