Description
Small shrubs. Leaves 3–7-nerved; petiole generally long. Inflorescences terminal, usually clustered, flowers rarely solitary, surrounded by 1 to several pairs of foliaceous bracts, on a short peduncle. Flowers 5-merous, sessile. Hypanthium campanulate, usually with 1 or more rings of hairs, rarely glabrous. Calyx lobes distinct, triangular, persistent and reflexed in fruit. Petals obovate, white, pink or mauve. Stamens 10, isomorphic; anthers oblong, occasionally somewhat rostrate, with a terminal pore; connective shortly prolonged, with a small bilobed ventral appendage. Ovary 5-locular, the summit pubescent; ovules numerous on axile placentas; style filiform. Fruit quite fleshy, irregularly rupturing.
