The Rainbow Lorikeet is a brightly coloured parrot. Flies fast with rapid wing beats. Lorikeets are often seen in large flocks. Often these flocks are very noisy around sunset as they screech and fly around before roosting. They usually roost in tall eucalypts. source: OZ Animals

Brief description: Body green, red-orange and blue, red bill.
Description : Head blue; back of neck and tail feathers pale yellow-green; back and upperparts bright green; breast and underwing red; abdomen with a blue-purple patch. Yellow stripe on the upper wing. Bill red. Body up to 30 cm long.
Biology : Rainbow Lorikeets usually occur in pairs. Both males and females feed the young, but only the females incubate the eggs. In Australia they feed primarily on nectar from the eucalyptus.
Habitat: Coastal scrub, urban parks and gardens.
Native status: Native to Australia
Diet: Nectar

Distribution: Indonesia, Papua New Guinea. Eastern, northern, eastern, and southeastern mainland Australia.
